Lots will be happening in Central Montgomery County this weekend! The Philadelphia Folk Fest continues, the LiveStrong Philly bike race, and little ole Hecklerfest are all taking place.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation will be bringing the LiveSTRONG Challenge charity bike ride through the County this weekend. For a course map, click here. The Challenge is celebrating its 6th year and begins and ends at Montgomery County Community College. The race will not be closing any roads, instead they will again have a “rules of the road” event that will travel through both Mongomery and Berks Counties. So be mindful of the bikers when driving! You can get more information here.
Next is the Philadelphia Folk Fest! The 50th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival will take place August 18th through the 21st at the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township. Four days of live music from more than 60 artists! You can also check out the local foods, crafts, solar power stage, and even a composting program sponsored by the Sustainable Living Road Show! So whether you want to camp out, or just stop by to hear your favorites artists, you can find more information here.
Last but not least, here comes Hecklerfest! The Heckler Plains Folklife SOciety and the Lower Salford Historical Society invite you to join them Saturday, August 20, 2011 for Hecklerfest! Located at the Heckler Plains Farmstead at Landis and Morris Roads in Lower Salford, this event will run from 1oam to 3pm. Rain date is Sunday the 21st. For a nominal entrance fee, $2.50 for adults, $1 for children, you can watch demonstrations of colonial crafts, butter churning and even take a barn tour. Other hands on crafts will be candle dipping, quilting and tin punching. With toys and games for the kids, crafts and baked good prepared in the outdoor oven, what more could you ask for??
As the summer winds down, its time to take advantage of these outdoor venues. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate!
