Do you think women are smarter than men? Well, according to Harvard’s Joint Study for Housing Studies, I may have to somewhat agree with that statement.
It turns out that one in five home home buyers is a single woman and twice as many unmarried women are buying homes than single men. In fact, single women make up more than one-third of the growth in real estate ownership since 1994!
Kudos ladies! Who needs a man anyway? The main reasons that single women wanted to buy a home were: having a strong desire to own a home, need more space or want a smaller home, and relocate to be closer to work, school or family.
So what are these women buying? 3 out of 4 women spend less than $200,000 on their cozy abode and majority want 2 or more bedrooms. They typically will not compromise on location or quality and prefer homes with some type of an association to help maintain the exterior of the home. Security, social interaction, being close to stores, shopping and fitness centers, were also key features in their home buying decisions. Hmmmm? Shopping? Maybe that is why they also wanted loads of closet space!
Nevertheless, women seem to realize more than men what a great opportunity this buyer’s market lends them. So come on guys, you need to step it up a bit. Otherwise, there is just one more reason that woman maybe are smarter than men!
